The Netherlands requires electrotechnical companies to comply with various norms and standards when it comes to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Not using PPE, or not using it correctly, increases the risk of serious injuries or even fatal accidents for workers: the primary reason why compliance with standards is crucial.

Failure to comply with legal and normative requirements can lead to fines. In serious cases, the Labour Inspectorate may decide to close a company temporarily or permanently. In the case of accidents resulting from non-compliance with safety standards, companies can be held liable.
